Lisbon Airport (LIS) Information: Aerial photo of the city's coastlineLocated just 7 km / 4 miles to the north of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS) is the largest airport in Portugal, handling in excess of 14 million passengers per annum through its single terminal. Established in the early 1940s, Lisbon Portela Airport is surrounded by an urban landscape and is located alongside Campo Grande, Encarnacao, Lumiar, Musgueira and Teresinhas.

With over 20 counters and capable of handling over 1,500 passengers every hour, the new Terminal 2 at Lisbon Portela Airport has recently opened and lies on the southern side of the facilities, next to the Segunda Circular.

Many public bus services run to and from Portela Airport and Lisbon city centre throughout the day, including the efficient Aerobus and Carris services. There is also an airport shuttle bus that runs beyond Lisbon, as far as Estoril and Cascais in the west. Taxis are available 24 hours a day and are metered, connecting locations such as Alfomelos, Amadora, Bobadela, Moscavide and Sacavém, while a nearby railway station links with the extensive Portuguese rail network.
